Ability revamped home is 'lovely place to live'

03.02.2011

Tenants of the newly rebuilt Pound House in Dorking released balloons to celebrate the official reopening of their new homes. The 12 new flats replace a former care home on the same site.

The new Pound House has twelve spacious self-contained flats with assistive technology to help the residents to live independent lives. The assistive technology system is designed to be flexible and adaptable so it can be tailored to meet the needs of each individual tenant now and in the future. It can easily be altered or upgraded should any tenant’s needs change.

As well as leading edge assistive technology the building also includes environmental features that reduce the carbon footprint and ensure affordable bills for the tenants.

Funding for the new £1.2m development was provided by the Homes and Communities Agency, Mole Valley District Council and Ability Housing Association.

Steven Hurrell, Partnership and Development Director at Ability said: "The completion of the new Pound House is a great achievement and the high quality homes provided are the result of many years work. We are very grateful for the support of Mole Valley District Council and the Homes & Communities Agency, which has enabled us to set a new high benchmark standard for supported living."
