Tenants move into Leggyfield Court, Horsham

01.12.2010

Tenants from Leggyfield Court have moved into their new apartments after the handover of phase one from contractor, Castleoak. Phase one consists of 21 apartments for retirement housing, with associated communal facilities such as a residents’ lounge, dining room, and a buggy store. All the tenants from the old building, which consists mainly of bed sits, have moved out and are occupying 20 of the new apartments. The move commenced in November and continued in the beginning of December, despite heavy snow fall. The site will be handed over to the contractor to commence demolition for phase two in January.

Phase two will complete the scheme, adding 36 apartments for Extra Care housing. Extra Care housing enables people with care and support needs to live independently with a professional care team on site 24-hours a day, seven days a week. There will be 57 one and two bedroom apartments in total for rent and sale. In addition to this there will be a commercial kitchen, hairdressers, guest suite, assisted bathroom, laundry area and care suite. Phase two is expected to start in the new year, with anticipated handover of the site a year later in January 2012.

Leggyfield Court is situated in a residential area, close to Horsham’s town centre, and was an existing block already owned by Saxon Weald. Grants of £3,757,333 were obtained for the redevelopment from the Retirement Housing Review and £1,020,000 from the Homes and Communities Agency.
